About This Project
Except for "Story Of Our Lives", this is a collection of songs I've been holding onto for a while, just waiting for the right reason to release them.
The Reason has Come! Proceeds from sales of this EP go directly to fund a mission trip to Haiti with a team from Gateway Church in partnership with Mission of Hope Haiti. My wife is part of the mission team.
So why is it LIMITED?
- No plans to release this edition through digital stores like iTunes/Amazon.
- Limited number of copies are being printed. When they're gone, they're gone!
- The Haiti mission is in June 2014 so this project has a limited time to make an impact.
A Little About the Songs
In the Summer of 2013 "Story Of Our Lives" was released as a single. Since then, it's won awards in local and international song contests. That same summer we tracked drums for several more songs, and two of those are on this release: "Amy Smiles" and "Austin Traffic Song". By Fall they were finished, but without a place to call home.
Then something unexpected happened that October. I woke from a deep sleep at 4 a.m. with a tune in my head, and by 5 a.m., the entire "Holy Smokers - Bring It!" song was on paper! It's rare that I write songs so fast and this one took on a life of it's own.
After meeting with the Holy Smokers and getting their blessing to record it, two visions formed for how the song might sound. One, a high-energy rock anthem, the other, a laid back acoustic-based country/jazz influenced sing-along. Each version turned out quite different from the other, but "The Men" are featured in both and it was a blast working with everyone to produce it. Incidentally, to keep production costs low, I played all the instruments on "Holy Smokers - Bring It!" except for a guest appearance on lead guitar from my father Johnny Herring. His playing was exactly what the laid-back version needed!
